Kidney injury/repair in preeclampsia

Biography

Sanketa is a postdoctoral researcher with Lina Bergman at the University of Gothenburg. She has completed her Ph.D. from ICMR-National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health, Mumbai, India, with specialisation in reproductive biology and male fertility.

Her postdoc project is in collaboration with AstraZeneca wherein she will be studying the mechanistic biomarkers for kidney damage (or repair) in a cohort of women with preeclampsia using omics approach, at baseline (during pregnancy) and postpartum.

The kidney is one of the central organ affected in preeclampsia and women with previous preeclampsia are at 2-3 times increased risk of chronic kidney disease later in life. There is a lack of understanding how these acute injuries resolve and why some women progress to chronic kidney disease.

This project will aid in improved characterisation of what women are at risk for kidney disease and could open up plausible personalised assessment after preeclampsia as well as an improved understanding of the development of chronic kidney disease.
